Herniated Disk Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain affects the daily lives of most Americans, and can primarily be attributed to herniated disks.  Those who suffer from herniated disks often experience symptoms like lower back pain, numbness in digits and in some cases headaches.  The treatment for the lower back pain caused by herniated disks usually involves a series of treatments over a period of time that not only alleviate the pain, but also serve to reset or correct the disk Herniation. Physical and massage therapy are usually the first treatment options considered as they serve to treat the muscles in the region of the disk herniation.  By first treating the muscles spasm, a physician is then able to ensure that the herniated disk can be properly reset.  Along with physical and massage therapy, herniated disk lower back pain are treated with heat and cold therapy.  Hot packs are applied in 15-minute increments over a period of a few days.  Next, cold therapy is introduced to the lower back pain. Ice packs are applied also in 15-minute increments several times a day for several days.  Some physicians are also recommending traction machines to help reset the spine by elongating it.Herniated disk causes lower back pain because of the undue pressure that is applied to other parts of a patient’s skeletal structure to compensate for the herniated disks.  Many patients find that their posture improves after just a short period of treatment.  Chiropractic manipulation is also considered by many to be necessary in the treatment of herniated disk lower back pain.  While scientifically the benefits of manipulation are still in question, chiropractic care along with physical and massage therapy seems to decrease the amount of recovery time needed.  Herniated disks are the primary cause of lower back pain in Americans today.
