Exercises For Neck and Back Pain Relief

Stretching and strengthening are suggested exercises for neck and back pain relief. Many people want to rest while suffering from neck and back pain.

 

However, the quickest way to reduce some of the pain is to remain active. Doctors and physical therapists recommend exercises for neck and back pain relief.

There are several exercises for neck and back pain relief. Neck flexion is the movement of bringing your chin to your chest. Neck extension is slowly moving your head back until you are looking at the ceiling. Rotation is turning your head slowly to one side until you cannot go any further. Side flexion is trying to touch your ear to your shoulder while facing straight ahead. Retraction is moving the head back and the chin down. This exercise counteracts the inclination of the head poking forward while due to bad posture. The knee twist is performed while lying on your back with your knees bent. Slowly, let your knees fall to one side to stretch out the back. The side bend begins with you standing with your arms over your head. Reach your arms to each side and hold for ten seconds.

These exercises for neck and back pain relief can be easily done at home and some can be done at work. People with desk jobs should frequently take short breaks and can complete some of these exercises for neck and back pain relief at their desks.

Other exercises for neck and back pain relief include acupressure and relaxation techniques. Various pressure points on the body including the back and neck can be related to pain. Acupressure advocates believe people can have relief of pain by pressing and holding the pressure points. Relaxation can help you control pain by relaxing muscles and through deep breathing exercises. Both acupressure and relaxation are exercises for neck and back pain relief that you will need practice to perfect.
